Since Michael Jackson died, our extended family has had an ongoing discussion that can't be resolved. After seeing all of the Michael Jackson hoopla, we began to wonder what other famous person might draw the same crowd when he/she dies. Some of us are certain that Oprah's funeral would be just as big of a deal as Michael's has been while others are adamant that there's no way her funeral would be bigger. Both people have made some good points and insist they are right, but we still can't resolve this argument.

Oprah's popularity seems to be waning. So if she dies a few years down the road or later, I don't think there's any way it will be as big as MJ. Furthermore, I don't think Oprah has the international appeal that MJ has/had.
On another note - if a Pope died suddenly, it would be a huge, huge deal worldwide.
What a great idea an Oprah/Michael smackdown. Jacob sounds like he is on to something when he mentions Oprah's popularity waning. I think I would have to agree with him.
Sorry for my spelling and punctuation errors on my previous comment. It was late (for me) and I was tired!
Hey, how come I can't vote more that one time on this important topic. I want each of my votes to count!
I heard there was a raffle for tickets to MJ's memorial service, and the website where you entered your name had 500 million hits in the first day or two. That's over 10% of the entire population of the world, and that's just visits to a website in 24-48 hours!
No way that Oprah has the star-power and international fame that MJ had. Her death will certainly be a big deal, but I don't think the power of talk shows and books will ever compete with the power of music. I imagine that in many places around the world, a few notes from a MJ song will garner more recognition than Oprah's name.
Thanks Ryan! I always knew you were a man of wisdom beyond your years.
I would bet on Oprah. Still, you never can tell. I guess it was almost 10 years ago now that Princess Di and Mother Teresa died in the same week, and the American news agencies hardly took notice of Mother Teresa's death, they were so tied up with Princess Di.
